The AICC “Sample Lesson”

The AICC has developed sample pieces of Web-based learning content (a sample lesson) as reference implementations for any CBT/WBT developers wanting to create web-based content that complies with AGR-010 (AICC/Web-Based CMI guidelines).

Currently there are two different samples avalaible:

  1. The Flash MX / PowerPoint2000 sample which requires the follwing in order to run:
    • A web browser (IE 5.x or higher)
    • Flash Player (Version MX or higher)
  2. The Authorware Sample (version 5) whuch requires the follwing in order to run:
    • A web browser (IE 4.x / Netscape 4.x or higher)
    • Authorware Web Player (Version 5.x or higher)

Running the FlashMX/PowerPoint2000 Sample (by manually entering launch parameters)

You can run the Flash MX / PowerPoint2000 sample through a web-based AICC/CMI (i.e. LMS) system

1. URL to the sample is as follows:

http://www.aicc.org/pages/sample_files/launch.html

2. WEB-LAUNCH parameter is set as follows:

  • CMI=HACP (for AICC/HACP Communcation)
  • CMI=API (for API communication)

3. There are no [CORE_VENDOR] parameters required for this sample.

Running the FlashMX/PowerPoint2000 Sample (by loading an AICC course structure)

If you have a web-based AICC/CMI (i.e. LMS) system, you can also load the Authorware Sample parameters with an AICC course structure (instead of manually entering the parameters). The example below is a course consisting of two "Assignable Units" in it.

  1. Download and unzip this course structure
  2. Import this course structure into your LMS(CMI) system
  3. Launch from your LMS system.

(Please note that this course structure references the AICC website so you must be connect to the internet to run this course. Also note that the example may not work for most users due to cross-domain security restrictions.)

Running the Authorware Sample (by manually entering launch parameters)

You can run the Authorware sample by itself or you can launch it through a web-based AICC/CMI (i.e. LMS) system. If you launch it using a CMI, you may want to use some of the CORE_VENDOR options below.

1. URL to the sample lesson is as follows (click below to launch without a CMI):

http://www.aicc.org/pages/sample.html

2. [CORE_VENDOR] parameters are as follows:

AUTO_EXIT = 1 or 0 (1=on, 0 = off -- Automatically exit to when navigating past the last page)
EXIT_URL = <URL to that the lesson jumps to on exit>
DEBUG = 1 or 0 (1=on, 0 = off -- Turns debug mode on or off)
F_FWD =1 or 0 (1=on, 0 = off -- Turns “Fast Forward” Mode on or off)

For example:

AUTO_EXIT = 1
EXIT_URL = http://www.aicc.org/pages/done_sl.html
DEBUG = 0
F_FWD = 0

Running the Authorware Sample (by loading an AICC course structure)

If you have a web-based AICC/CMI (i.e. LMS) system, you can also load the Authorware Sample parameters with an AICC course structure (instead of manually entering the parameters). The example below is a course consisting of one "Block" with one "Assignable Unit" (i.e. the Sample Lesson) in it.

  1. Download and unzip this course structure
  2. Import this course structure into your LMS(CMI) system
  3. Launch from your LMS system.

(Please note that this course structure references the AICC website so you must be connect to the internet to run this course)
